It has been 17 years since Lucia left her native Mexico. When she arrived in Quebec she lived in St-Thomas de Joliette, the small town her husband is from. Then the couple moved to Montreal. Lucia didn’t speak French fluently yet, but she wanted to learn.
Marjorie has been working at Affinity Credit Union for the past 26 years. Her present position is an Investment Specialist.
In 1969, Diane was hired at Steinberg’s. At the time she was a student and worked part-time. When she was offered a full-time position in the Produce Department she accepted without hesitation because of the good working conditions.
Judy has been a member of UFCW Canada since she started working at the 8th Street location of the Real Canadian Superstore (Loblaw) in 1979. Judy became a Shop Steward at her store in the ‘80s and says that she believes it was when the contract was expiring and there were so many bad things happening in the workplace that she became involved.
Christine has worked for Desjardins Card Services (DCS) since 2000. The company employs over 600 unionized employees; previously represented by Local 502 and now by Local 500 since the merger. Christine had previously worked for 10 years for a Tau Natural Foods store.
