Lockout continues at Old Dutch in Calgary
March 30, 2009 - In Calgary, 170 workers at Old Dutch snack foods have been locked out by the company since March 30. The major issues are a food safety clause, a union security clause, and minor improvements in wages and benefits.“Old Dutch is seriously underestimating the strength of their workers,” says UFCW Canada Local 401 President Douglas O’Halloran.“We will be leafleting stores that stock Old Dutch products and asking customers not to buy them. This could be a long lockout unless we’re able to impact sales,” said O’Halloran.“We’re also proceeding with charges for bargaining in bad faith at the Labour Board.”
