Toronto – February 6, 2014– More than 582 Aboriginal Women are Missing and Murdered in Canada but Prime Minister Stephen Harper has said that he is “skeptical” about the need for a national inquiry.

UFCW Canada and FNCFCS partner in Shannen’s Dream video project

Toronto – January 22, 2014 – UFCW Canada and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society (FNCFCS) have come together to produce a new video in support of  the Shannen’s Dream campaign to bring equitable education to First Nations children. UFCW Canada and FNCFS are long-time community allies and recently signed a Mutual Support Agreement to accelerate their combined efforts to raise awareness about the inequity faced by First Nations children.

Preventing Occupational Breast Cancer

Sudbury, Ont. – January 16, 2014 – Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer to affect Canadian women. It is estimated that this year 23,800 women and 200 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast cancer is often talked about and publicized. The pink ribbon signifying breast cancer awareness and support can be seen everywhere.

Local 247 activists step up for women’s rights with shoe memorial

Vancouver – December 6, 2013 – Local 247 activists recently stepped up for women’s rights today by covering the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery with shoes and boots today to mark the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, which commemorates the 14 women who were murdered on December 6, 1989 at Montréal's École Polytechnique as the victims of gender-based violence.

UFCW Canada activists in BC gather support for December 6 memorial

Vancouver – December 4, 2013 – This Friday, December 6, UFCW Canada activists in BC who have been gathering donations over the past months, will join other community members for Vancouver's annual Shoe Memorial. UFCW Canada Local 247 activists, members, and family members generously donated dozens and dozens of pairs of shoes and boots to the Shoe Memorial campaign.
