Toronto – January 4, 2016 – As the national president of Canada's leading and most progressive union, I am very proud of the outstanding work that UFCW Canada members, staff, and local unions conducted in 2015, and I am confident that our hard work and achievements over the last year have put us in a stronger position to build more fairness for workers in 2016.
Toronto – December 9, 2015 – Across the country, UFCW Canada activists stepped up to raise awareness at December 6th Shoe Memorials to commemorate the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Toronto – December 6, 2015 – December 6 marks the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnique Massacre in which 14 women were murdered because they were women. The École Polytechnique was not only a college but also a workplace and two of the women murdered that day were members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).
Montreal – December 2, 2015 – A commemorative plaque stands as a permanent fixture on the grounds of Montreal’s École Polytechnique, on which engraved along with the date December 6, 1989, are the names of 14 women who each carried with them the goal of pursuing engineering degrees.
Toronto – November 28, 2015 – UFCW activists will be participating in Shoe Memorial vigils across the country on December 6th – the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
