Let’s get the facts straight about seasonal agriculture workers’ unionization
Montreal – March 17, 2014 – UFCW Canada in Quebec considers that recent statements made by managing director of the Association des producteurs maraîchers du Québec (APMQ, ‘‘Quebec vegetable producers’ association’’) Andre Plante as well as by UPA (‘‘Quebec agricultural producers’ association’’) president Marcel Groleau regarding the seasonal farm workers’ right to join a union are unfortunate.

The day arose from the struggles that women endured at the turn of the 20th century, when population growth and a change in working conditions saw many women facing long hours and receiving low pay in comparison to their male co-workers.
Mexico City – March 3, 2014 – UFCW Canada and other leaders from the migrant workers' rights movement have requested a Thematic Hearing at the 150th regular session of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). The hearing is requested to highlight the responsibility of states of origin in the violation of temporary workers' labour rights, specifically during the process of selection, recruitment, hiring, monitoring and return, when traveling to the U.S. or Canada on temporary work visas.
