Ottawa – December 13, 2012 – With the passage of Bill C-377, An Act to Amend the Income Tax Act (requirements for labour organizations) the Harper government continues to show its contempt for workers, their families and Canadian taxpayers.
Stephen Harper's Conservatives are determined to ram through Bill C-377, a private members' bill that will force every union, every union local, every local labour council, every federation of labour and the Canadian Labour Congress to file intrusive financial reports that will be posted on a public website for every employer to see. We need your help now to stop this bill in its tracks!
Over 40 NDP Members of Parliament recently met with leaders from UFCW Canada and the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) at an event in Ottawa hosted by the two leading unions.
Federal by-elections have been called in the ridings of Calgary Centre, Durham, and Victoria for November 26, which means UFCW Canada members and their families have an opportunity to tell Stephen Harper's Conservative Government that Canadians want a Parliament that will stand up for working families.
UFCW Canada members are joining labour activists across the country in mourning the loss of former Ontario Federation of Labour president Cliff Pilkey who passed away on Saturday, November 17.
