Tim Hudak’s education agenda attacks low and middle-income families

Toronto – February 13, 2013 – Many UFCW Canada members and families struggle to keep up with student loan payments. Now Ontario Conservative Boss Tim Hudak wants to make it even harder. Another Ontario Conservative white paper called “Paths to Prosperity: Higher Learning for Better Jobs,” says that financial aid for students should be tied to how well students do in their courses. The paper also recommends different streams of education based on students’ ability to pay.

Ottawa – February 13, 2013 – “Hear my voice”, a national campaign recently launched by the Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF), aims to mobilize the growing number of teachers and their supporters concerned about the state of democracy in Canada.

Tim Hudak's welfare reforms: everything old is new again

Toronto – January 22, 2013 – When it comes to Ontario PC leader Tim Hudak’s recently released white paper on welfare reform, the axiom that everything old is new again certainly applies. Most of the paper's proposals come from the mid-1990s when Hudak served as a junior minister in the Mike Harris government.

Stephen Harper must be Idle No More

Ottawa – January 8, 2013 – The meeting this week in Ottawa between the Prime Minister, and Idle No More advocates and First Nations leaders must result in more than just a photo opportunity, but Government Boss Stephen Harper's history is not encouraging. One of the first actions Harper took when he first became Prime Minister was to discard the Kelowna Accord — a comprehensive agreement between the federal and provincial governments, and the leaders of five national Aboriginal organizations in Canada to bring equitable education, employment and living conditions to Aboriginal Peoples.
