Toronto – January 20, 2017 – Four years after the Rana Plaza tragedy in Bangladesh, in which more than 1,100 textile workers were killed on the job when the garment factory they were working in collapsed, the government of Bangladesh is still ignoring agreements made after the tragedy to establish workplace safety, and has now allowed a brutal crackdown on garment union activists.
Toronto – December 16, 2016 – After consulting with Canadians across the country on whether we should change our voting system, the House of Commons’ Special Committee on Electoral Reform has recommended a system of proportional representation for Canada.
One of Justin Trudeau’s signature campaign promises was that the 2015 Federal Election would be the last one held under our antiquated first-past-the post electoral system.
Toronto – December 1, 2016 – The House of Commons’ Special Committee on Electoral Reform will issue its report today, and despite recent comments from the government, there appears to be widespread support for changing our electoral system to one based on proportional representation.
Ottawa – November 17, 2016 – UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema and UFCW Local Union presidents and activists from across the country recently gathered in Ottawa to participate in political action meetings with government ministers and Members of Parliament.
