Toronto – June 16, 2017 – UFCW Canada welcomes the federal government’s repeal of anti-union legislation from the Stephen Harper era, and the government’s commitment to protect and advance the union and collective bargaining rights of all workers in Canada.
Vancouver – June 1, 2017 – On election night in British Columbia, no party managed to win a majority of seats in the legislature, meaning B.C. will have its first minority government in 65 years.
Toronto – May 30, 2017 – UFCW Canada is encouraged by the Government of Ontario’s announcement today that it will strengthen the province’s labour laws by boosting the minimum wage, mandating equal pay for equal work, increasing vacation and personal leave entitlements, and enhancing union rights for some sectors, and says additional reforms are needed to ensure that all workers are fully protected under the law and are able to enjoy a good quality of life.
Toronto – May 23, 2017 – UFCW Canada supports a number of the recommendations put forward in the Changing Workplaces Review Final Report, released today, but says the Ontario government must go further by enacting bold labour law reform that includes card check certification, automatic first contract arbitration, and sectoral bargaining.
