"Game for SAME" Draws Dozens of Students to Help Support Migrant Workers
Recently, the Students Against Migrant Exploitation (SAME) chapter at Brock University held one of their most successful events so far. The event, entitled "Game for SAME," was a video game tournament that sought to raise awareness of the plight of Migrant Workers among the St. Catharines community, as well as fundraise for the families who were affected by the tragic February 2012 accident that claimed the lives of ten migrant workers in Homestead, Ontario.
Local 401 training dedicated to building activism
A group of UFCW Canada Local 401 members are now better prepared to make a greater impact in their communities after completing a week-long training session dedicated to helping yet-to-be unionized workers improve their lives through collective action.
New book examines human rights struggle of Ontario agriculture workers
On April 12, UFCW Canada activists attended the Toronto book launch of Constitutional Labour Rights in Canada: Farm Workers and the Fraser Case, edited by lawyer Fay Faraday and professors Eric Tucker and Judy Fudge. The book is a collection of essays that chronicle the two stories underlying the Supreme Court's historic Attorney General of Ontario vs. Fraser decision: UFCW Canada's decades-long campaign to secure equal labour rights for agriculture workers in Ontario;
Making Change at Walmart greets investors at international meeting in Toronto
Activists from the Making Change at Walmart campaign greeted investors at Walmart’s international investors and analysts meeting held in Toronto from April 11 to 12.
