Toronto – March 26, 2013 – Seeking fairness and respect at their workplace, a new group of LensCrafters employees has voted “Yes!” to joining Canada’s best union and leading voice for retail workers.
Montreal – March 21, 2013 - While the vast majority of Zellers stores have ceased operations, including those locations purchased by American retail giant Target, one Quebec store under the Zellers banner has survived the wave of closures.
Ottawa – March 21, 2013 – UFCW Canada is promoting a new youth leadership initiative aimed at educating young Canadians about workplace health safety, employee rights, and fairness on the job. The contest is seeking original youth-made videos on how to work safe and smart on the job in order to prevent injuries and illnesses at work.
Montreal – March 19, 2013 – Hatchery workers in the Quebec region of St-Félix-de-Valois have become the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 501 by recently voting “Yes!” to the leading voice for workers and their families.
Toronto – March 7, 2013 – With the opening of the first three Target stores in Canada, more than 25,000 former Zellers workers continue to be left out in the cold by the American retail giant. On March 5, Target Canada opened their first-ever Canadian stores to the public - in Milton, Guelph and Fergus, Ontario. Since acquiring 189 Zellers stores more than a year ago, Target has consistently maintained that all Zellers workers would be terminated and their wage rates, benefits and years of service would not be recognized once their stores re-opened under the Target banner.
Guatemala City, Guatemala – March 6, 2013 – Recently, members of AGUND (Association of Guatemalans United for Their Rights) convened for the organization's annual general assembly.
