Migrant workers discuss need for open work permits at Leamington consultation

Leamington, Ont. – April 22, 2019 – UFCW Canada recently joined over forty migrant workers to meet with federal government officials and discuss the need for open work permits for vulnerable migrant workers who have suffered physical, sexual, psychological, or financial abuse from their employers while working in Canada.


Toronto – December 17, 2018 – Canada’s food workers’ union, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW Canada), is calling on the federal government to stand up for the rights of migrant and temporary foreign workers by enacting urgent reforms to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), and the program’s primary agricultural stream in particular.
Leamington, Ont. – August 21, 2018 – Agriculture workers met with senior government officials in Leamington, Ontario on Sunday to share their experiences with the Temporary Foreign Workers Program (TFWP), and to offer some advice as frontline workers in addressing a number of serious gaps in the system, especially when it comes to health and safety, housing, piece rates, and other basic rights and standards.
