Application filed for another Quebec agricultural unit

Quebec City – July 26, 2013 – An application for union certification has been filed by UFCW Canada Local 501, after workers at Les Productions Horticoles Demers Inc. indicated their support to bring the union advantage to their workplace. Many of the workers are migrant agriculture workers from Guatemala and Mexico.

Toronto – July 22, 2013 – UFCW Canada is giving migrant workers and their families hope for a better future through the 2013 Migrant Workers Scholarship program, which offers twenty $500 union scholarships to the family members of migrant workers.

UFCW Canada Migrant Workers Scholarships recipients announced

Toronto – July 13, 2013 – The 20 recipients of the 2012 UFCW Canada Migrant Worker Scholarships have been announced. The recipients are a diverse group of young people from the Global South, ranging in age from 6 to 24 — attending school in Guatemala, the Philippines, Jamaica, Sri Lanka, Kenya, El Salvador and Mexico. Each recipient was nominated by a family member working as a migrant or temporary foreign worker in Canada.

AWA wins 2013 CoDevelopment Canada "Solidarity Award"

Vancouver – July 10, 2013 – The Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) was recently recognized for its longstanding advocacy of migrant farm workers' labour rights at a fundraising dinner hosted by CoDevelopment Canada (CoDev), a British Columbia-based non-profit organization that works for social change and global education in the Americas.

S.A.M.E. activists bring migrant awareness to thousands of students

Toronto – June 21, 2013 - In many regards the 2012-2013 school year was an historic milestone for S.A.M.E. (Students Against Migrant Exploitation). Among the many accomplishments for the organization, now in its fourth year, was the total number of students that were engaged through presentations and online campaigns: more than 7,500 students altogether!
