First collective agreement for agriculture workers at Ferme B. Cousineau et fils

Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Que. – June 18, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 501 members working at Ferme B. Cousineau et fils have secured their first collective agreement following a ruling by a Labour Relations Commission arbitrator. The three-year contract is effective until spring 2017.




Toronto – May 12, 2014 – Juan Ariza is not only a survivor – he is a fighter. On February 6, 2012, he and two other migrant workers survived a horrific traffic accident near Hampstead, Ontario, when the van they were travelling in collided with another vehicle. Ten of Juan's colleagues were killed, along with the driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident.
Toronto – May 9, 2014 – The Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario (ACBO) has released a report supporting the call for equitable access for agriculture workers to the same labour rights and workplace benefits as other workers in Ontario.
Toronto – May 3, 2014 – The Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) has renewed a benefit plan to provide accidental death and dismemberment insurance for its members. UFCW Canada signed the renewal agreement with AIL Canada, the life insurance company that has provided this important benefit for AWA members since 2011.
