UFCW Canada files Gender Discrimination Complaint in B.C.

Canada's leading union for migrant workers files complaint before British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal

Vancouver – August 13, 2014 – UFCW Canada filed a human rights complaint before the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal today, denouncing B.C. employers who use discriminatory mechanisms that allow them to avoid hiring women under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP).

Canada's leading union for migrant farm workers files complaint with Ontario Human Rights Commission

Toronto – July 31, 2014 – Canada’s leading union for migrant farm workers is asking the Ontario Human Rights Commission to open an inquiry into gender-based discrimination practiced by Canadian agribusinesses that employ migrant farm workers under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program (SAWP).

UFCW Canada puts temporary workers' rights on Tlaxcala migratory agenda

Tlaxcala, Mexico – July 21, 2014 – UFCW Canada recently joined with the Collective for a Migration without Borders – a non-profit organization comprised of a diverse array of migrant advocacy groups –  and the Committee on Migratory Affairs of the Congress of Tlaxcala to push for reforms to Mexico's Migration Act that would strengthen temporary migrant workers' rights.

Canada’s leading union for agriculture workers welcomes end to sugar strike in Swaziland

Toronto – July 12, 2014 – UFCW Canada congratulates the members of the Swaziland Agriculture and Plantation Workers Union (SAPWU) on the settlement they achieved following a three-week strike. More than 3,000 workers demonstrated immense courage throughout the duration of the strike, standing up to intimidation by the military and legal action by the company.
