Ottawa – November 15, 2018 – UFCW Canada was recently invited to deliver testimony to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage, which is currently examining a private member’s bill that calls for the recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, June 21, as an official federal holiday.
Ottawa – August 3, 2018 – There are approximately 370 million Indigenous people living across the globe in 90 countries, speaking over 7,000 languages and representing over 5,000 cultures.
Toronto – June 13, 2018 – UFCW Canada representatives recently came together to walk and petition in support of fair and equitable services for First Nations children in Canada.
Winnipeg – June 12, 2018 – UFCW Canada activists recently honoured National Indigenous Peoples Day at an event held at the UFCW Local 832 Training Centre in Winnipeg.
Toronto – June 5, 2018 – In Canada, the National Day of Reconciliation is observed each year on June 11 to serve as a reminder of the 150,000 Indigenous children who were forcibly taken from their homes and placed in the residential school system from the 1870s to the mid-1990s.
