Toronto – June 12, 2013 – Every year Pride is celebrated across the country as one of Canada’s biggest and most colourful annual festivals. It features exciting street fairs, marches, parades, picnics, and concerts. Each event provides an inclusive experience, which is why Pride is a popular attraction among Canadians and thousands of visitors from around the world.
Toronto – June 11, 2013 – UFCW Canada activists joined thousands of community members across the country in walking and sending letters to demand an equal future for First Nations children on June 11th, the National Day of Reconciliation with Aboriginal communities. Dozens of National Office staff and Local Union activists signed letters to Government Boss Stephen Harper and other Members of Parliament demanding support for culturally-based equity for First Nations children, and then walked to a nearby mailbox to send the letters to Ottawa.
Toronto – June 10, 2013 – Target workers, former Zellers employees, and community allies from Canada and the United States are set to rally at Target’s Annual General Meeting, held this year in Denver, Colorado on June 12.
Montreal – June 10, 2013 –The announcement of a new investment of $55 Million to expand the Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Canada (GMCR Canada) coffee factory located in the Saint-Michel area in Montréal has been met enthusiastically by UFCW Canada Local 501 which represents unionized workers at the facility.
Toronto – June 9, 2013 – As reported in the Toronto Star, the federal Canadian Privacy Commissioner Jennifer Stoddart has found that Dr. Cindy Blackstock, Executive Director of the First Nations Children and Family Caring Society (FNCFCS), has been the subject of surveillance by the Tory Government in Ottawa.
Toronto - June 7, 2013 - The combined efforts of UFCW Canada activists, family members and Local Unions over the past year have again made UFCW Canada the largest fundraising organization in the country supporting the lifesaving research efforts of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
Virgil, Ont. – June 7, 2013 - Hundreds of migrant agriculture workers and guests gathered at the Virgil Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) workers' support centre June 2, for the centre's Annual Opening Barbeque and Soccer Tournament. Each spring, the yearly gathering hosted by the AWA and UFCW Canada welcomes back migrant farm workers employed in southern Ontario's Niagara region.
