Ottawa – June 22, 2013 – United Way Centraide Canada has named UFCW Canada as a 2012 recipient of its prestigious “Thanks a Million” award, which is presented annually to labour organizations and corporations that demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to the United Way and its noble causes.
Toronto – June 21, 2013 - In many regards the 2012-2013 school year was an historic milestone for S.A.M.E. (Students Against Migrant Exploitation). Among the many accomplishments for the organization, now in its fourth year, was the total number of students that were engaged through presentations and online campaigns: more than 7,500 students altogether!
Toronto – June 20, 2013 – The United Nations (UN) World Refugee Day is observed every year on June 20th, to honour the strength, courage and determination of millions of women, children and men who are forced to flee their homes under the threat of war, conflict, violence or persecution. This year’s focus is on the impact of war on families and the theme is “1 family torn apart by war is too many”.
Edmonton – June 19, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 401 activists recently took pride in Edmonton by standing with more than 30,000 community members in the city’s most successful PRIDE parade ever.
Ottawa – June 19, 2013 – The Harper Government’s attack on workers, Bill C-377, is now back for final debate in the Senate. The Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce tabled the legislation by a vote of 6 to 5 with one Conservative Senator abstaining from the vote.
Toronto – June 18, 2013 - Each year the United Nations' (UN) World Refugee Day is observed on June 20th. This event honours the courage, strength, and determination of women, men, and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution and violence. This day was designated by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees to bring attention to the plight of the 14 million refugees around the world.
Toronto – June 17, 2013 - Migrant agriculture workers, UFCW Canada and AWA activists, and community allies gathered to celebrate the Father's Day weekend, and to also send a message to the Harper government that Migrant Workers Are Parents Too.
