First contract with UFCW Local 509 for workers at Gaudreau Environnement in Baie-St-Paul, Quebec

Quebec City – December 13, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 509 is pleased and very proud to announce that the workers at Gaudreau Environnement inc. have achieved a first collective agreement. The members at Gaudreau Environnement — a waste management company in the Charlevoix area — ratified the terms of a first labour contract which runs until the end of 2016.

1st collective agreement ratified by workers at Barrington Retirement Home

Barrie, Ont. – December 10, 2013 – The health care providers at the Barrington Retirement Home in Barrie, Ontario recently met to review and vote on their first collective agreement. Workers in the bargaining unit join 3,000 other members of the UFCW Canada Local 175 Health, Office & Professional Employees (HOPE) Sector.

Ontario action to protect precarious workers a "positive first step" says UFCW Canada leader

Toronto – December 6, 2013 – The announcement of proposed Ontario legislation to extend protections for migrant and precarious workers "is a very positive first step in renewing employment standards legislation and extending workplace health and safety legislation," says UFCW Canada National President Paul Meinema.
