The CEDAW Report Card – administered by The West Coast Legal Education and Action Fund (LEAF) – grades the B.C. government on how well it has adhered to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of all forms for Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
UFCW Canada and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) recognized the efforts of four outstanding advocates for change in Canada’s agriculture industry at a ceremony in Toronto on November 21.
At the recent meeting of the Canadian Soft Drink Workers Council (CSWC) held in Toronto, UFCW Canada representatives from Local Unions 175, 278W, 361W, 387W, 401, 486, 501, 832, 864, 1000A, 1288P and 1400 combined to make the largest caucus of the seven organizations in attendance including UFCW Canada, Teamsters, NAPE (from Newfoundland), CAW, RWDSU (Saskatchewan), and an independent employees' association from Calgary.
Federal by-elections have been called in the ridings of Calgary Centre, Durham, and Victoria for November 26, which means UFCW Canada members and their families have an opportunity to tell Stephen Harper's Conservative Government that Canadians want a Parliament that will stand up for working families.
TORONTO – On Wednesday, November 21, 2012, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW Canada) and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) will be hosting their annual award fundraising dinner. The event will be at the Ontario Federation of Labour Building at 15 Gervais Drive in Toronto starting at 5:30 p.m.
UFCW Canada members are joining labour activists across the country in mourning the loss of former Ontario Federation of Labour president Cliff Pilkey who passed away on Saturday, November 17.
Workers at the Kinosis Lodge near Fort McMurray, Alberta are one step closer to achieving their goal of unionizing with UFCW Canada Local 401 after the Alberta Labour Relation Board (ALRB) threw out the Christian Labour Association of Canada’s (CLAC) unionization application and fined Aramark for providing inaccurate information to the Board.
