Vancouver – January 25, 2017 – The British Columbia Labour Relations Board (BCLRB) has upheld charges that the owners of a B.C. agriculture operation broke the labour laws in attempting to derail the union rights of migrant agriculture workers at Floralia Plant Growers Limited in the Lower Mainland. The workers are members of UFCW Canada Local 1518.
Toronto – January 24, 2017 – In the lead up to and during the 2013 British Columbia provincial election, a group of B.C. Liberal supporters calling themselves “Concerned Citizens of B.C.” ran a negative advertising campaign against then-B.C. NDP leader Adrian Dix.
Shawinigan, Que. – January 23, 2017 — Workers at the Bulk Barn store in Shawinigan, Quebec are the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 500 after saying “Yes!” to joining the union.
Toronto – January 20, 2017 – Four years after the Rana Plaza tragedy in Bangladesh, in which more than 1,100 textile workers were killed on the job when the garment factory they were working in collapsed, the government of Bangladesh is still ignoring agreements made after the tragedy to establish workplace safety, and has now allowed a brutal crackdown on garment union activists.
