The recent step to “strengthen workplace democracy” by Mike Harris’s Ontario Tories – the so-called sunshine law revealing the pay of union leaders whose gross remuneration exceeds $100,000 per year – raised few eyebrows when its report was made public.
Through the years, many women have reached positions of great responsibility in UFCW Canada. There are women stewards and officers in locals across the country, and a number of women in senior local union staff positions as well.
June remains a special month on the UFCW Canada calendar, representing as it does Leukemia Awareness Month. The majority of our union’s fundraising efforts take place at this time, culminating in the gala evening in recognition of the many volunteers who are making a difference.

There are few Canadians whose lives have not been touched, in some way, by the devastating effects of substance abuse. Fewer still are unaware of the repercussions of the problem, in the workplace, and society in general (see “Facts on File”, in "More Details").
A Better World for All - Today, July 13, members of the UFCW Canadian Council executive will make history for our union when they meet in Calgary to, among other things, consider the formal establishment of the UFCW Canada Humanitarian Fund.
No Union is an Island - Solidarity is a term used frequently in the labour movement – together, working people are stronger than we would be as individuals. That’s the whole idea behind forming a union in the first place.
A Long, Hot Summer - While many UFCW Canada members are enjoying well-deserved summer holidays, a number of UFCW Canada local union staff and elected negotiating committee members are busy turning up the heat at crucial negotiations in western Canada.
