UFCW Canada national representatives from across the country recently gathered in Port Credit, Ontario, to participate in the annual National Staff Conference.
“It hasn’t changed my life much, but I hope the money will change the lives of people with leukemia,” says Albert Johnson, the UFCW Canada Local 1118 president who recently shaved off all his curly locks and moustache to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).
UFCW Canada National Council Committees recently met in Halifax to evaluate ongoing projects, discuss upcoming initiatives, and, for one group, make front page news.
A new five-year agreement with Loblaw Companies Ltd. (LCL) has been ratified by UFCW Canada members across Ontario, except for workers at nine stores in the southwestern corner of the province.
Over 200 United Latinos and UFCW activists from across North America recently gathered in Nevada to talk about a number of important issues involving Latino workers and the international labour movement, such as the need for immigration reform, and the essential role new immigrants can and must play in the union’s strategy for the future.
