WSIB President gets $80K bonus on the backs of injured workers

It appears the Ontario Government has once again forgotten the physical and financial pain of injured workers.

Mr. Peter Page, President of the Ontario Network of Injured Workers Groups (ONIWG) sent an open letter to Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty on March 15, 2012 showing that “every time the government or the WSIB raises a concern about its funding level, we find cuts to the benefits of injured workers.”

Taking stock of Walmart: Bullish to workers is bearish to investors

This week Walmart is going to put on quite a show in Toronto. At their annual international meeting for the investment community, Walmart executives will likely paint a rosy picture regarding their international operations. This meeting of investors and stock analysts is, after all, designed so the company can assure the audience that its operations are solid and their investments are safe.

OFL organizes Ontario Day of Action against Austerity for April 21

In light of Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty's plan to use the Don Drummond Commission Report as justification for dismantling the province's valuable social services, the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) is calling on all activists to attend the Day of Action against Austerity at Queen's Park in Toronto on April 21 at 3 p.m. The protest will tell Mr. McGuinty to build the province rather than tear it apart.

Community comes together in time of need

Over the past several weekends community members, organizations, and unions alike have come together to raise funds for the 14 people injured in the crash that killed 10 migrant workers in Hampstead, Ontario on February 6, 2012. To date, the Migrant Worker Family Support Fund has surpassed the $120,000 mark thanks in part to generous donations made at events organized by community leaders and organizations.
