We Remember! April 28 – Day of Mourning for workers killed and injured on the job

Toronto – April 25, 2013 – On April 28, as we remember workers who have been killed or injured on the job, we must also remember to keep up the fight for the living.

Tragically, thousands of workers, every year, have their life changed because of a major injury while hundreds more lose their life because of their work.

Harper's EI "reforms" threaten to cost eight members $63,402

Quebec – April 19, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 503 is taking action against the Canada Revenue Agency for attempting to claw back $63,402 from the incomes of eight members. The CRA’s unjustified actions are especially shocking since the agency has long recognized the seasonal nature of the seafood industry, where the members work as quality control inspectors for Fruits de mer de l’Est in Matane, Quebec.

Manitoba budget is innovative and progressive

Winnipeg – April 22, 2013 – The New Democratic Party (NDP) government of Manitoba unveiled its progressive and innovative 2013 budget this past Tuesday. Premier Greg Selinger stated that his government's budget “builds a better Manitoba for today and for the long term, while protecting what matters most to families in an uncertain world.”

Ottawa – April 22, 2013 – Leading environmentalists at ForestEthics and Environmental Defence have revealed that the United States is on track to meet its climate change targets, with President Barack Obama committing $90-billion toward clean energy projects. In Harper's Canada, meanwhile, there are no federal regulations on climate pollution from the oil sands, and our greenhouse gas emissions continue to soar.
