Remembering the Hampstead Tragedy

Toronto – February 5, 2014 – This week marks the second anniversary of one of the deadliest highway collisions in Ontario history. On February 6, 2012, a 13-passenger van collided with a flatbed truck on a county road near Hampstead, Ontario. A trail of carnage was left near the accident site, as a single family home, painted sky blue, stood virtually untouched while the accident victims lay just a few metres away from the front door. Ten migrant workers perished that day, while three others barely survived to tell their story.

First collective agreement for Local 1991P members at Résidence Nouvelle-Acadie

Montreal – February 1, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 1991P members working at the Résidence Nouvelle-Acadie retirement residence in the Montérégie region of Quebec have overwhelmingly ratified a first collective agreement.

UFCW 175 members holding the line for job security succeed at Horizon Plastics

Mississauga, Ont. – January 31, 2014 – After 22 days on the picket line, UFCW Canada Local 175 members at Horizon Plastics have a four-year collective agreement that resolves a number of the outstanding issues that resulted in the rejection of earlier settlements.
