As the largest private sector union in Canada, UFCW Canada has worked for many years with KAIROS and has witnessed the tremendously important work they do in Canada and internationally.
The World Day of Social Justice – first observed in 2009 and every year since on February 20 – traces its roots back to the United Nations World Summit for Social Development held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995.
UFCW Canada’s outstanding commitment to empowering workers through training and education recently went global with its participation in the first-ever Global Workers Defenders Network Forum, held in Tapachula, Mexico from January 24 to 28.
From 2000 to 2010, union membership in Canada increased by approximately 19%, but during the same time period total union density in Canada declined from 32.8% to 30.8%.
Report finds federal government complicit in Canada’s abuse of migrant farm workers
Canada’s most comprehensive annual report on the challenges facing migrant farm workers has been released. It confirms that abuse and exploitation of migrant farm workers are rampant in Canada’s agriculture industry.
An overview of this year’s government benefits for the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP) and the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP); Old Age Security (OAS); Unemployment Insurance (UI); and Workers Compensation.
Walmart Watch, a program seeking to hold Walmart fully accountable for its impact on communities, workers, the retail sector, the environment and the economy, recently launched a new website to challenge Walmart to more fully embrace its corporate responsibilities and live up to its position as the world’s retail industry leader.
