Toronto – April 30, 2014 – Every year, workers and their unions around the world observe International Workers Day, also known as May Day, on the first day of May. As our nation’s leading union, UFCW Canada celebrates May Day this year, uniting our members across Canada with our sisters and brothers around the globe, from Bangladesh to Mexico to Guatemala.
Mississauga, Ont. – April 30, 2014 – Congratulations to some of the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 175 who work at Transcare. These workers fought to bring justice and dignity to their workplace throughout their organizing drive, which lasted a few months.
Montreal – May 1, 2014 – Andréanne Morin is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2013. Sister Morin is currently enrolled in the Special Education Program at Cégep de Granby, a general and professional training college in Granby, Quebec.
Toronto – May 1, 2014 – A year ago, 1,135 workers were killed and thousands more injured in the Rana Plaza disaster in Bangladesh. In the wake of that tragedy, more than 150 apparel retailers, including Loblaw, committed to The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh.
