Another victory for agriculture workers

Montreal – March 5, 2014 – UFCW Canada, which has been advocating for respect and the recognition of agriculture workers' rights in Quebec for nearly five years, is pleased with the provincial government's decision to grant seasonal agriculture workers the same rights as all workers in Quebec, including, in particular, the right to join a union.

International Women’s Day – March 8, 2014

Toronto – March 6, 2014 – On March 8th, people around the world will celebrate International Women’s Day, which was established by the United Nations in 1975. The day arose from the struggles that women endured at the turn of the 20th century, when population growth and a change in working conditions saw many women facing long hours and receiving low pay in comparison to their male co-workers.

UFCW Canada calls on Senate to protect gender identity by passing Bill C-279

Toronto – March 5, 2014 – As it stands right now, only a few Canadian provinces protect gender identity. While Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, and the Northwest Territories explicitly protect gender identity from discrimination within their human rights legislation, other provinces do not.

2013 UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship Winner: Trevor Chan, Local 1518

Burnaby, B.C. – March 4, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 1518 member Trevor Chan is one of eighteen UFCW Canada – BDM Scholarship winners for 2013. Trevor (pictured receiving his scholarship cheque from Local 1518's director of member services Donna Tremblay) is enrolled as a first-year student at the BC Institute of Technology in Burnaby.
