Trois-Rivières, Que. – March 3, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 509 (TUAC 509) members at the Marché Végétarien grocery store in Trois-Rivières, Quebec recently approved the agreement-in-principle reached between their bargaining committee and employer for a new, four-year collective agreement.
Mexico City – March 3, 2014 – UFCW Canada and other leaders from the migrant workers' rights movement have requested a Thematic Hearing at the 150th regular session of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). The hearing is requested to highlight the responsibility of states of origin in the violation of temporary workers' labour rights, specifically during the process of selection, recruitment, hiring, monitoring and return, when traveling to the U.S. or Canada on temporary work visas.
