Carriages of New France Local 503 members achieve first collective agreement

Quebec City - January 23, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 503 members at Carriages of New France (Calèches de la Nouvelle-France) in Quebec City have achieved a first contract, and the first of its kind in North America. The members provide horse carriage tours and guide services to visitors and residents of Quebec City. On January 10, arbitrator Léonce E. Roy ruled on a first collective agreement that runs until November 9, 2016.

UFCW Canada and FNCFCS partner in Shannen’s Dream video project

Toronto – January 22, 2014 – UFCW Canada and the First Nations Child and Family Caring Society (FNCFCS) have come together to produce a new video in support of  the Shannen’s Dream campaign to bring equitable education to First Nations children. UFCW Canada and FNCFS are long-time community allies and recently signed a Mutual Support Agreement to accelerate their combined efforts to raise awareness about the inequity faced by First Nations children.

Tell Crown Holdings to stop its attack on workers

Toronto – January 21, 2014 – UFCW Canada is urging activists and allies to add their voice to the call for Crown Holdings to stop its attack on 120 Toronto workers forced on strike since September. Crown Holdings is a giant U.S. multinational with 149 plants around the world manufacturing food and beverage cans.
