Local 175 members hold strong at Horizon Plastics lockout

Toronto – January 10, 2014 – On Sunday, January 5, approximately 160 members of UFCW Canada Local 175 at Horizon Plastics Intl. in Cobourg were locked out by their employer after they rejected a tentative settlement. The members rejected the deal due to the nature of several concessions in the document.

New contract for Local 500 members at Laminage Farnham

Montreal – January 13, 2014 – UFCW Canada Local 500 members at both Laminage Farnham production facilities in Farnham, Quebec have ratified a new 39-month collective agreement. The contract provides 75% of the employees an average 9.36% wage increase, retroactive to July 1, 2013, with acceleration in the wage progression. Employees at the top of the pay scale will get a 6% increase in their rate of pay for the duration of the new agreement.

2013 UFCW Canada BDM Scholarship Winner: Abigaile Chua, Local 247

Richmond, BC  – January 12, 2014 – Abigaile Chua is one of 18 UFCW Canada Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu (BDM) Scholarship winners for 2013. The Bachelor of Science student is the daughter of UFCW Canada Local 247 member Abel Chua who works at Grimm's Fine Foods (Abigaile's father is pictured next to her as she receives her scholarship cheque from UFCW Canada Local 247 staff representative Cathy Shannon).
