Victoria, B.C. – June 29, 2013 – Workers at an Empire Theatres movie house in Victoria have become the newest members of UFCW Canada Local 1518 by voting “Yes!” to Canada’s leading and most progressive voice for workers. The script unfolded with a young, energetic inside committee of teenage and young adult workers seeking a fair wage ladder, better scheduling, and respect from management.
Montreal – June 28, 2013 – Canada’s leading voice for retail workers, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW Canada), joins Zellers workers in Quebec today in celebrating a decision by the Quebec Labour Standards Commission that recognizes – for the first time – Target’s responsibility to Zellers workers and their communities by ruling that Target needs just cause to deny former-Zellers workers employment in the rebranded retail locations.
Ottawa – June 28, 2013 – UFCW Canada members, friends and supporters once again led the way in mobilizing communities for positive, political change by sending hundreds of letters to Canadian Senators: calling on them to reject Stephen Harper’s attack on workers and their unions – Bill C-377.
Toronto – July 2, 2013 – UFCW Canada activists from Locals 175 & 633 and 1000A once again joined Toronto’s LGBT community and thousands of tourists, families and merrymakers at North America’s largest PRIDE week, held this year from June 21 to 30.
