TORONTO, ON — February 6, 2012- The union that has led a two-decade campaign for increased workplace and safety rights for Ontario farm workers has offered its condolences and renewed its call for increased diligence in the wake of a horrific two-vehicle collision Monday that reportedly killed 10 agriculture workers riding in a van, as well as the driver of another vehicle.
In the wake of the tragic accident, UFCW Canada and the Agriculture Workers Alliance (AWA) have also set a Migrant Workers Family Support Fund to immediately assist the families of the workers who were killed, as well as the families of the injured in the horrific accident.
Zellers workers across Canada are uniting as part of a new campaign that is asking Target for fairness when it comes to staffing its “new” Canadian stores.
UFCW Canada is calling on all activists, friends and supporters to stand in solidarity with our Sisters and Brothers in Holland who work for FNV Bondgenoten as cleaners and have been striking for fairness for over a month.
Labour activists teamed up with seniors, retirees and supporters on February 9 to occupying 21 Tory MP offices across Ontario, while other actions are taking place elsewhere in Canada.
