UFCW International President Joe Hansen Challenges White House: Tell Walmart to Create Good Jobs and End the Poverty Cycle

Local 401 members say “Yes” to new Lakeside contract by 92%

UFCW Canada Local 401 meat-packing members at the XL Lakeside beef plant in Brooks, Alberta, have said “Yes” to a new union contract by 92%.

Ratified on July 13, the new contract features substantial wage improvements, retroactive pay and a significant increase to benefits. Also, new health and safety protections, food safety provisions and new rights for Temporary Foreign Workers have been negotiated.

UFCW Canada jumps up at this year’s Junior Caribana Carnival

UFCW Canada activists braved the sweltering heat on July 16 to join over 3,000 spectacularly dressed kids in the Jane and Finch area of Toronto for this year’s Caribana Junior Carnival.

Coming on the heels of the UFCW Canada Summer Splash, Locals 1000A, 1993, and the National Office played mas with the union’s long-time community partner – and last year’s Junior Parade winner – the Louis Saldenah Mas-K Club Band.
