Politics NOW!
Starting this month, UFCW Canada activists will have a new resource in their political action toolboxes. Politics NOW! is a new weekly bulletin published by the National Political Action Department that focuses on the political stories and issues that are most important to UFCW Canada members and their communities.

More than 50 Filipino migrant workers recruited to Canada under the Temporary Foreign Workers (TFW) program have filed a $10 million class action suit against Denny’s restaurants in British Columbia, charging the company did not live up to the employment contract the workers signed before they arrived from the Philippines. The suit was filed in the B.C. Supreme Court on January 7, on behalf of the Filipino migrant workers employed at Denny’s from 2006 until the present.
The UFCW is applauding U.S. President Barack Obama for signing into law a new overhaul of the American food safety system, which was recently passed by Congress. U.S. food safety regulations have been sorely in need of updating and this new law makes significant progress by strengthening oversight and consumer protection.
Thanks to the efforts of UFCW Canada Local 1000A members at Maple Leaf Poultry in Toronto, seven families in the Toronto area had a happier holiday season.
