On October 22, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) along with UFCW Canada recognized the groundbreaking work, dedication and commitment of some of Canada’s top blood cancer researchers, through awards and grants presented during a luncheon held at the Hyatt Regency in Toronto.
Light the Night walks at hundreds of communities across Canada are expected in total to raise over $2 million dollar this year for the research efforts of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada’s (LLSC) to find a cure and more effective treatments for leukemia and other blood cancers.
Over the past decade the Cesar E. Chavez Black Eagle Awards dinner has brought together farm workers, social justice activists, and labour and faith-based organizations to celebrate the legacy of Cesar Chavez — and to honour individuals and organizations committed to the cause. Recently a sold out crowd of more than 300 gathered to honour this year’s recipients at the 11th Annual Black Eagle Awards held in Toronto, hosted by UFCW Canada and the Agricultural Workers Alliance.
UFCW Canada activists from across the country recently gathered in Ottawa to participate in the union’s first ever National Political Action Conference. The three day conference was held during the first week of November and involved members, officers and staff from UFCW Canada local unions and the National Office focused on the organization’s tremendous potential – as Canada’s largest private-sector union – to impact the results of upcoming federal, provincial and municipal elections.
