As we look back on the G20 meetings just held in Toronto, and forward to our country’s birthday, Canadian working families have a lot to think about this Canada Day.
More than 300 migrant agriculture workers – the largest gathering ever of migrant workers in Canada – travelled to Toronto on June 20 to participate in No Rights, No Rules: Migrant Workers in a Globalized World — an international forum on the challenges, obstacles and exploitation faced by migrant and temporary workers in Canada.
UFCW Canada members, allies and social justice activists joined some of the world’s leading globalization experts on June 21 to combine Walmart insights, share campaign victory experiences and strengthen the progressive movement’s resolve to challenge the profound impact Walmart is having on the world, its people and their rights.
Thousands UFCW Canada members, environmentalists, human rights advocates and other members of the progressive movement marched through the streets of downtown Toronto on June 26 to protest the pro-corporate, anti-family actions and policies of the G2O leaders, who were simultaneously meeting in the city mere blocks from the massive demonstration.
