The UFCW One Union One Voice program – established by delegates to the union’s sixth regular international convention in 2008 – took a big step forward last week in Toronto with the successful completion of the first-ever UFCW Canada Growth Summit, involving more than 160 UFCW Canada activists and officers from across the country.
Women activists at UFCW Canada Local 500R took the opportunity of International Women’s Day (IWD, recognized March 8 each year) to celebrate by organizing a family day event.
The official convention call has gone out for this year’s UFCW Canada National Defence Fund (NDF) Convention, to be held during a conference July 11-13 in Saskatoon.
During the UFCW’s annual International Executive Board meetings held recently, an awards dinner attended by more than 400 people was held to showcase some of the more outstanding growth efforts of local unions across the continent.
Posters and application packages for this year’s UFCW Canada National Council Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu (BDM) scholarships program have recently been sent to local unions, promoting the $18,000 that is available to members and their families each year for eligible post-secondary education.
