Quebec City – November 26, 2013 – UFCW Canada Local 509 members at the Coop Saint-Ludger supermarket in Quebec’s Estrie region are excited to have a new collective agreement following a successful ratification vote in October 2013. The Coop Saint-Ludger employees approved the agreement in principle that was reached by their bargaining committee and the contract is now in effect.
The agreement provides average wage increases of 2.4 percent for workers at the top end of the salary scale. As well, employees who are currently progressing through the wage scale will continue to receive a 1.8 percent increase for every 832 hours worked.
As for improvements, workers and their families will benefit from an increased employer contribution to the dental plan, which will provide an 80 percent reimbursement of dental expenses.
"Created in 1975, the UFCW dental plan is one of the primary member benefits that contributes to our union’s enviable reputation,"says Daniel Nadeau, President of Local 509."To date, nearly 40,000 members in Quebec are covered by the plan, and it provides benefits to more than 50,000 people," adds Brother Nadeau.
