webCampus Registration Now Open for Fall Session
Toronto – August 16, 2013 – After a busy summer updating webCampus to better serve UFCW Canada members and their families, North America’s most advanced labour education program is now back in action, and open for registration for the fall session.
All webCampus courses are free of charge for all UFCW Canada members and their families. Courses run from September 4 to 27, 2013.
Canada's leading retail union is proud to offer members an increasingly diverse array of free online courses through the webCampus program. While many of our members take these courses out of personal interest, others see them as a way to develop their professional skills and build their resume.
As North America’s premier labour education resource, webCampus is very pleased to announce the following new courses:
Better Note Taking – September 4 to 27 (English only)
Did you know that some research studies have shown that you can forget up to 90 percent of what you’ve learned in less than a week?
One strategy for improving memory retention is effective note-taking – not just because you’ll have a written record to refer to in the future, but also because the actual act of taking notes can help reinforce concepts in your mind.
Think about any reasons you might have for taking notes in everyday life – it’s a skill we all use, to some extent, as part of organizing daily life and routines, recording useful information, and identifying key points within it.
Microsoft Word 2010 – September 4 to 27 (English only)
Microsoft Word 2010 offers enhanced features to create professional grade documents, effectively work with teams, and enjoy universal access to your files.
In this course, you will learn your way around the Word 2010 environment, including the new backstage view, which replaces the Microsoft button menu from Word 2007.
You will also learn how to:
Add impressive formatting effects directly to the text in your document. With Word 2010, you can apply many of the same effects to text and shapes that you might already use for pictures, charts, and SmartArt graphics.
Use new and improved picture-editing tools to fine tune every picture in your document.
Improved Navigation Pane and Find tools make it easier than ever to browse and search.
Easily customize the improved Ribbon feature to make the commands you need most accessible.
Create custom tabs or even customize built-in tabs.
Recover draft versions of files that you closed without saving.
Critical incident and post traumatic stress – September 4 to 27 (English and French)
This course will familiarize participants with workplace causes of critical incident stress and post traumatic stress disorder so that they can advocate for programs to improve workers' health and safety on the job and overall well-being.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
Define critical incident stress (CIS) and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and discuss the nature of stress.
Discuss the workplace causes of CIS and PTSD.
Explain the acute and chronic responses to stress.
Describe the symptoms and effects of CIS and PTSD.
Discuss legislation and solutions for combating the effects of workplace stressors.
Identify strategies to eliminate or reduce the effects and causes of CIS and PTSD.
Registration is now open. To register for the new September courses, and to find out more about webCampus, visit www.ufcw.ca/webcampus, or call us toll-free at 1-866-865-0202.
