Local 1400 Laps for Life leukemia fundraiser tops $15K
Regina, Sask. – July 8, 2013 – The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) was the big winner at the Laps for Life annual Go-kart racing charity event held recently in Regina, with all proceeds donated to support the life-saving research of the LLSC.
UFCW Canada Local 1400 and the ORR Centre in Regina are the co-founders of the annual min-Indy leukemia fundraiser, "and the community support has gotten better every year," says Norm Neault, Local 1400 president, and one of this year's drivers of the proudly UFCW Canada gold-coloured cart, sporting Number 14.
This year's third-annual event drew over 300 spectators, drivers, and pit crew members for an afternoon of 25 heats raced on a closed course around Regina City Square. There were 15 teams in total, and their entry fees, along with dollars raised from hot dog and pop sales raised over $15,000 for the LLSC.
"We're grateful for all the support the event has received from the public, and from the companies and groups that sponsored teams in the race," said Brother Neault. "It was fun day for a great cause. Even better, we know every dollar raised helps in the race to find a cure and better treatments for leukemia and blood cancers."
