First Contract for new members at MEC Toronto – UFCW 1006A

Toronto – February 18, 2025 – UFCW 1006A members at MEC (Mountain Equipment Company) in Toronto have ratified their first union contract.

“I’m proud to congratulate our members at MEC for achieving a strong first contract,” said UFCW 1006A President Wayne Hanley. “The support of our members was vital in helping our exceptional negotiating committee achieve gains at the bargaining table.”

In October 2023, workers at MEC voted to join Local 1006A. Their campaign drew a lot of community support, including from Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow who attended a rally outside the store.

Highlights include wage increases, job assurance language, improved scheduling and more.
