Celebrating Black History Month: Honouring the past, shaping the future

Toronto – January 24, 2025 – February marks Black History Month, a time to recognize and honour the contributions, history, and resilience of Black Canadians throughout our shared history. In the face of systemic racism, discrimination, and inequality, Black Canadians have made immeasurable contributions to the fabric of Canada, shaping culture, politics, and communities.

Black History Month serves as an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, the challenges that remain, and our ongoing commitment to social justice.

Black Voices Matter

To help foster understanding and awareness, we are excited to introduce our new webCampus course, Black Voices Matter. This course is a powerful resource designed to help workers understand and actively combat anti-Black racism in Canadian society and workplaces. Through key topics such as recognizing systemic racism, understanding anti-Black racism in the workplace, and learning about the legal framework surrounding these issues, participants will gain valuable insights into the challenges faced by Black workers.

The course also explores practical solutions for creating inclusive and supportive workplaces, highlighting the importance of allyship and advocacy. Participants will be empowered with the tools they need to help foster positive change and contribute to building environments where all individuals feel seen, heard, and valued.

Organizing for Justice: Black Workers, Unions and Racial Equity Webinar

On February 18, the Canadian Labour Congress will be hosting the Organizing for Justice: Black Workers, Unions and Racial Equity – bringing together a panel of Black labour leaders to explore how unions are pivotal in advancing the rights and opportunities of Black workers. The session will delve into the unique challenges Black workers face, the critical role of unions in fostering racial equity, and the ongoing work needed to ensure justice and fairness in Canadian workplaces.
