UFCW Canada activists stand in solidarity with striking CUPW workers

UFCW Canada activists stand in solidarity with striking CUPW workers

Toronto – November 22, 2024 – Across Canada, UFCW activists stand in solidarity with striking members of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) in their fight for fair wages, and better working conditions.

The strike, which began after negotiations broke down between CUPW and Canada Posts, highlights critical concerns such as workplace safety, job security, and the need for wage increases that match the rising cost of living.

On November 22, 2024, UFCW Canada activists were on the ground in full support at a rally outside a Canada Post facility in Toronto. The rally, which drew hundreds of union allies and supporters, was a powerful demonstration of solidarity. Activists marched alongside CUPW workers, chanting slogans and holding signs calling for fair wages and improved working conditions.

“We all know that our greatest strength is our unity. That our greatest strength is our solidarity,” UFCW 12R24 activist Craig McDowell told the crowd. “Friends, comrades, we are with you every step of the way. United, we will never be defeated."

“Postal workers singlehandedly saved the corporation during the pandemic,” said Ahmad Gaied, OFL Secretary-Treasurer and UFCW 1006A activist, in his rally speech. “You connect our country. You keep our economy going. You are essential. Today, you're not just fighting for yourself, you're fighting for all workers."

The message was clear: when workers stand united, they have the strength to push for meaningful change. UFCW Canada remains committed to supporting CUPW in their efforts to secure fair wages, improved job security, and a safer work environment. This solidarity reflects the ongoing fight for workers' rights across the country, and UFCW will continue to stand with CUPW and all workers fighting for justice and respect.
