Health care workers ratify new contract – UFCW 832

Brandon, Man. – November 15, 2024 – On October 31, UFCW 832 members at CBI Health in Brandon voted to ratify a new, three-year agreement. This is the group’s second agreement with UFCW 832, the first was imposed by the Manitoba Labour Board last fall.
“This committee did awesome advocating for their fellow workers and showing the patience needed to ensure they get a good deal,” says Phil Kraychuk, UFCW 832 union negotiator.
Highlights from the deal include:
- 6.5% increase on wages with retroactive pay
- Increases to bereavement and sick leave. Sick time will now be prorated from a member’s date of becoming full-time rather than having to complete a full year. Sick leave will also increase from six to eight days by the end of CBA.
- An added health and wellness lump sum payment for experienced workers that age out of the benefit plan.
The 200+ UFCW members working at CBI Health, a for-profit organization in Brandon, include Direct Support Professionals and Team Leads who support individuals living with disabilities or illnesses, which can be related to cognitive challenges, physical health or mental health.
