Better conditions for members at the Avril Distribution Center – UFCW 501

Better conditions for members at the Avril Distribution Center – UFCW 501

Montreal – November 12, 2024— The United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 501 (UFCW 501), is pleased to announce the signing of the first collective agreement at the Avril Distribution Center in Granby. This two-year agreement marks a significant step forward, consolidating the gains made by employees and introducing significant improvements to existing working conditions.

In terms of salaries, the agreement provides for an average increase of 8%, applied retroactively to May 1, 2024, with the introduction of a 36-month progressive salary scale. In addition, increases of 2.5% will come into effect on November 1, 2024, and November 1, 2025, respectively, guaranteeing continued improvement in financial conditions for UFCW 501 members.

In addition, employees will benefit from paid sick days, with the allocation of three days in 2024, and the addition of a fourth day in 2025 for those who have accumulated a certain seniority. The preservation of all special working conditions is also central to this agreement.

This first collective agreement testifies to the determination of our members and their commitment to establishing a respectful and advantageous working environment for all. "We are proud to see their efforts rewarded,” says André Gingras, UFCW 501 negotiator.

UFCW Local 501 represents 19,000 union members working at more than 410 companies across Quebec and northern New Brunswick. To learn more about UFCW Local 501 and its outstanding work, visit the Local Union’s website.
