Social service workers join the union – UFCW 175 & 633
Kawartha Lakes, Ont. – February 23, 2024 – Workers at Women’s Resources of Kawartha Lakes have voted to join UFCW Locals 175 & 633. These 45 new union members at three Women’s Resources locations work as shelter counsellors, family support workers, outreach workers, and child/youth and casual/relief counsellors.
Reasons listed as to why these workers sought union representation are: achieve better wages, ensure job security, health & safety concerns, eliminate favouritism, and work towards a harassment-free workplace.
Workers in this sector as especially vulnerable with stressful working conditions. UFCW Locals 175 & 633’s has experienced union negotiators who are ready to take on the challenge faced by workers in community-based organizations serving vulnerable populations.
