Members at CFB CANEX ratify new deal – UFCW 1400
Moose Jaw, Sask. – February 16, 2024 – UFCW Canada Local 1400 members working at CFB CANEX in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan have unanimously voted in favour of a new collective agreement bringing wage improvements, new domestic violence leave provisions, and more.
The Canadian Forces Exchange System, or CANEX are retail outlets operating in Canadian military communities. UFCW Local 1400 members work in food services and retail operations.
The new three-year agreement features wage improvements of at least 10.5% with 5.5% of that increase occurring immediately and retroactively to the expiry of the previous collective agreement.
Additional improvements include a safety footwear allowance, guarantees of at least two weekends off each month, improvements to short term disability leave, and a new long term disability plan.
A key new feature of the new collective agreement is the inclusion of a new Domestic Violence Leave, a job-protected leave of absence that can be taken for specific purposes when an employee is experiencing domestic violence.
