Members at Maple Leaf Pork achieve new contract – UFCW 401
Lethbridge, Alta. – December 7, 2023 – UFCW Canada Local 401 members working at the Maple Leaf Pork facility in Lethbridge, Alberta have achieved a new collective agreement that brings wage increases, the introduction of a pension plan, improved benefits, and more.
The new agreement includes wage increases totaling $3 per hour over the life of the agreement and $1.50 per hour immediately upon ratification, equaling a near 20% pay increase to the base rate.
The new contract also includes the introduction of a new Maple Leaf pension plan with immediate enrollment for all current members.
Other contract highlights include:
- Increased vision care
- Increased afternoon shift premiums
- Increased boot allowance
- Increased physiotherapy
- Increased dental and orthodontic coverage
- Improved a number of job levels
- Improved health and safety language
The union negotiation committee were also successful in fighting off concessions that the company was trying to reach on the weekly hours guarantee and the reduction of vacation entitlements.
